Inmate who led authorities on chase attacks guard in ETX hospital

Lufkin, Texas(KETK) — An inmate who attempted to evade authorities in a multi-county chase Monday allegedly attacked a guard at a Lufkin hospital Tuesday morning.
According to the Lufkin Police Department Sergeant David Casper, Joey Salinas, 36, of Conroe, was being treated at a local hospital after wrecking out a vehicle during a chase that spanned several counties.
Witnesses told authorities, at around 11:30 a.m., Salinas tried to take a guard's gun from its holster and a scuffle ensued. Responding officers were dispatched to scene and able to subdue the convict.
The guard, who is a Houston County Sheriff's Office deputy, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Salinas is expected to be charged with assault on a peace officer and attempted escape.
The chase began in Montgomery County and traveled through Walker County, then Madison County and ended in Houston County.
On February 5, the suspect was arrested in Dallas County for an aggravated robbery. His bail was set at $100,000.
