According to the Jacksonville Police Department, officers have detained a teenager who reportedly stole his mother's car Tuesday morning.

Police tell KETK, the 15-year-old boy had gotten in trouble at school and when his mother attempted to discipline him, he stole her car and was leading authorities on a chase through Cherokee County. He was caught on County Road 4218.

The car chases lasted about 15 minutes and the teen was arrested and taken to Anderson County Juvenile Detention Center.

The teen, whose name has not been released due to his age, has been charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, assault and family violence, and evading arrest.
