Jury indicts man who attacked ETX police chief
Lakeport, Texas (KETK) — An East Texas man accused of assaulting the Lakeport Police chief was indicted by a Gregg County jury last week.
Ryan Jordan Cooley, 21, of Gladewater, was taken into custody on May 15, 2014, for resisting arrest and attacking Police Chief Wesley Freeman at Zippy J's in the 5900 block of Estes Parkway. Chief Wesley reported he was responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.
During the incident, Cooley allegedly stepped out of his car and began throwing punhces at Freemen when a fight broke out. The police chief was also kicked in the back before two bystanders helped the officer restrain Cooley.
At this time, no trial date has been set in the 124th District Court.
