Jury selection is underway for the accused Tyler Broadway Square Mall parking lot shooter. Neal allegedly shot dead a former Chapel Hill and Stephen F. Austin athlete.

Starting at 8:30 a.m., lawyers began selecting a jury to decide if Ricky Neal, Jr., 26, of Tyler, is guilty of the February 9, 2013, crime. He faces an additional charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police determined he shot at Jonathan Lamone Dews, 29, of Tyler. The jury will also be responsible for the punishment phase.

According to both lawyers, Neal and the victim, Chris Mass, 23, of Tyler, were allegedly affiliated with opposing gangs: Neal with the "Bloods" and Mass with the "Crips." They also pointed out Dews was a known and convicted drug dealer.

Jury selection is expected to continue into the afternoon.

But the question is... did the defendant KNOW he was affiliated with gangs, and if so, why did he go outside with them around?

You see, wither he knew or not, he has a real legal problem with his defense.
