A Longview pet owner is facing animal cruelty charges after leaving their dog chained up outside resulting in the animal's death.

Tuesday morning around 9:22 a.m., Longview Animal Control Officers and Longview Police responded to an animal welfare call in the 2400 Block of 13th Street. When they arrived they found a dog chained in the yard. It appeared the dog had frozen to death and the owner had not provided any type of shelter, water or food for the animal. The dog was so frozen the veterinarian could not even get a temperature reading on the deceased pet.

Police plan to file class A misdemeanor animal cruelty charges against the owner of the dog.

Longview Police Department and Animal Control remind citizen's that we are very adamant about providing your pets with adequate food, water, and shelter, especially during the the sub-freezing temperatures. If a report is made alleging an outdoor pet is not being taken care of we will investigate and, if necessary, file appropriate charges. If someone cannot provide for their pet they are encouraged to contact animal control or the local Humane Society.

I can't believe this cruel and inhumane treatment of an animal is considered a "misdemeanor" and not a felony. This is murder!

This is something that needs to change. and I agree this is murder! An eye for an eye. Whoever did this to this furbaby, needs to experience the same kind of cruelty they put that baby thru. freezing to death is a very painful way to die. and that furbaby does not have a voice, so we have to be it's voice. Shame on you human who killed this baby.

This is something that really needs to change. Animals are living breathing things. Most of us treat our animals like members of the family, like our children. If we were to kill one of our children, we would be in prison for murder. If you kill your pet, you should be charged with MURDER. This was a preventable death by just bringing this furbaby in the house where it is warm. The human who did this should have to suffer the same fate as that baby.

Horse whip 'em! Or if not that we need the old stockade punishment where they lock you up in front of the courthouse with your head in a wooden lock. People get to come by and say 'hi' in some unpleasant ways.

THEY NEED TO SEND HIM TO PRISON, PUT HIM OUTSIDE AND LET HIM FREEZE WITH NO SHELTER AND NO WATER OR FOOD.... AND HOW CRUEL CAN YOU BE.... ANIMALS HAVE HEARTS AND SOULS TOO. I WOULD PUT HIM IN PRISON FOR A LONG TIME, OUR LAWS FOR ANIMALS ARE TOO LAXED.... I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE WHAT KIND OF MIND SET YOU HAVE TO HAVE TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS.... I WOULD LET HIS BUTT FREEZE TO DEATH...... WE NEED TO CHANGE OUR LAWS AND MAKE THEM STIFFER FOR ANIMAL ABUSERS......

I wonder how he/she would feel? He/she needs to be put out in the cold without food and water!
