Longview woman sentenced to prison for embezzling over $425,000
Longview, Texas (KETK) — A Longview woman was sentenced to 24 months in prison on Friday for embezzlement by U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.
Jo Beth Westergard, 64, worked as a bookkeeper for Pizza Hut of East Texas from 2000-12. In that time, authorities say she embezzled more than $425,000 from the company. Westergard pleaded guilty to wire fraud and has been ordered to pay Pizza Hut $425,323 in restitution.
According to court documents, Westergard wired $5,970 from a Pizza Hut checking account to her personal American Express credit card account on Feb. 18, 2005.
On numerous occasions, she transferred funds to her personal Visa credit card account and her personal PayPal account.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Gregg County District Attorney’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble prosecuted the case.
