Lufkin, TX (KETK) — The Lufkin Police Department is seeking help in capturing suspects in an car theft ring.
Around 1:15 p.m., on Monday, authorities responded to call from the parking lot of a doctor's office in the 1300 block of West Frank Avenue on reports of a vehicle theft.
The 81-year-old owner of the truck, told an officer he parked the vehicle outside the doctor's office and left his keys in the driver's seat before going into the office. When he left the building, around an hour later, his truck was gone.
A witness told the victim he saw a black male take the truck. The witness said the suspect walked into the parking lot from behind the doctor's office then walked to the front door of the building. The suspect stopped at the door and went back to the parking lot, got in the victim's vehicle and drove off. The witness did not know the car did not belong to the suspect until an hour later when he was approached by the victim.
The alleged thief is described as a 20 to 30-year-old black male wearing dark pants and a dark shirt with a white emblem on it.
At this time, detectives have not definitively linked this crime to Tuesday's theft of a 2010 truck from a local day care, located in the 2500 block of West Frank Avenue or the theft of a vehicle in a local distribution center parking lot, also on Tuesday.
The suspects, or possibly suspect, in these crimes have not been identified.
Anyone who can identify the suspect(s) or provide information concerning any of these crimes should call Crime Stoppers of Lufkin at (936) 639-TIPS or submit an anonymous tip at www.LufkinCrimeStoppers.com. All calls and tips are anonymous, so tipsters never have to give their name and Crime Stoppers may pay a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest related to these crimes or the recovery of the stolen vehicles.
