A man was arrested Thursday night after he interfered with firefighters as they were trying to put out a house fire.

According to police reports, at 8:30 p.m., a fire broke out on the 2800 block of Minnie Lou St. in Lufkin on Thursday night.

When crews arrived at the scene, the home was engulfed in flames. Police say that Howard Chuck Plowman, 50, refused to get out of the way of the first responders.

Plowman drove over the firehose and then around to the back of the burning house, which has been identified as his home. He then intentionally rammed his car into his RV and then the RV into the car. Plowman continued to run back and forth running the vehicles into each other and almost plowed over police officers while driving through the yard.  Officers eventually knocked out the RV's window and took Plowman into custody.

After being pulled from the vehicle, Plowman told police he was trying to save someone's life in the RV, but no one else was inside. Authorities are not sure why Plowman was acting out as they believed he was not intoxicated or under the influence of a drug.

Authorities are not sure if Plowman was involved in the starting of the fire. He was arrested for crossing a fire hose, interfering with public duties, driving without a license, and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze around 12:45 a.m. on Friday. The fire originated in the living room, but investigators are unsure of the cause.

Three other people were inside the house when the fire began. They were all able to escape. It's unknown if any were injured during the incident.

Plowman is currently in the Angelina County jail.
