Man sentenced for stealing van with one-year-old inside
Upshur County, Texas (KETK) — A Houston man was sentenced to serious jail time after he was convicted of stealing a van with a baby inside in Upshur County.
Andrew Lowell Crane, 32, of Houston, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated kidnapping and child endangerment. He was sentenced to 30 years for the kidnapping and 20 for the child endangerment. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning Crane will not serve more than 30 years.
Back on November 21, 2012, a woman reported to authorities Crane had jumped into her van and taken off with her child in a car seat as she was leaving a Texaco store on Highway 271.
The 1-year-old baby was found a short time later unharmed, sitting on the side of Holly Road in a car seat. The van was discovered a few miles away on Lime Tree Road.
The Upshur County Sheriff's Office, Department of Public Safety and Gilmer Police Department received information leading them to a home where Crane was found and arrested. He would also be treated for self-inflicted injuries.
