Greenville, Texas (KETK) — An East Texas man is in law enforcement custody after he allegedly threw a knife and injured a police officer during a dispute.
Greenville Police Department Public Information Officer Autumn Barton said Melbourne Francis Kym, III, 26, was arrested Monday afternoon following an attack on his roommate and responding officers. Authorities were first dispatched to the scene around 3:32 p.m. when they received a report of assault.
After arriving at the scene on the 2300 block of Bonnie View, police learned Kym, who suffers from some mental health issues, had assaulted his roommate. When the suspect refused to be taken into custody, he threw a knife and cut an officer on his face. Once authorities subdued Kym, he was arrested and taken for treatment of minor wounds.
The officer was hospitalized for a short time while receiving stitches and will not return to the line of duty until the wound is healed.
Kym was charged with two counts aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest or search transport and assault bodily injury violence. He is being held on $409,500 bond in the Hunt County Jail.
Authorities have not yet released the cause of the initial attack on the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
