A Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender from Tyler was caught Tuesday after he was recognized at a local homeless shelter.

At 12:00 p.m., Michael Wayne Hopson, 57, of Tyler, was arrested at a Longview soup kitchen and taken into custody by state troopers without incident. Authorities took Hopson to the Gregg County Jail.

Hopson was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender in Anderson County and indecent exposure in Payne County, Oklahoma. His criminal includes multiple charges of indecent exposure.

The fugitive's last known address was 1023 North Glenwood Boulevard in Tyler.

Hopson was not caught as a result of a tip. No reward will be paid.

So far in 2013, DPS and other agencies have arrested nine Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders, and $10,000 in rewards has been paid for tips that resulted in arrests. The cash rewards are funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division.
