Shelby County, Texas (KETK) — A Cushing man was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with a bank robbery in Nacogdoches County.
According to Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges, the Capital One Bank in Chireno was held up around noon. The suspect had left the business in a blue car by the time deputies arrived at the scene.
A short time later, the San Augustine Police Department spotted a vehicle matching the description, but the car refused to pull over and stop. The driver turned on to Highway 96 and headed toward Shelby County. At this time, DPS, Center Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office began chasing the car.
The vehicle was eventually stopped near Tenaha on Highway 96. The driver was identified as Mitchell Garrett, 46, of Cushing. Money and clothing from the bank linked the suspect to the robbery, Bridges said.
The FBI and Texas Rangers are investigating the incident. Garrett has since admitted to the crime. He will be charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest.
Surveillance video shows the robber handing a note to the teller while holding a hand in his pocket as if there were a weapon inside.
The suspect is currently in the Shelby County Jail. He will be transferred to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
