Shreveport Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another man seriously injured in Shreveport Sunday morning.

Just after 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Shreveport Police was dispatched to a reported shooting at the intersection of Merwin Street and Hassett Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a man, inside a white SUV with single gunshot wound to the upper body. The man was identified as 19-year-old Demonta Wills of Bossier City. Wills was pronounced deceased at the scene.

He was one of at least three occupants inside the vehicle. The other two were detained for questioning and transported to the Shreveport police department.

The three men were reportedly involved in a shootout with a group of individuals from anoher vehicle that fled the scene.

There was evidence linking a 23-year-old Edward Bessard of Shreveport man to the crime. Authorities tracked down Bessard at a home in the 2300 block of Audrey Lane. They found him through reports of a shooting at that address.

Upon their arrival, authorities discovered Bessard had been shot. Bessard was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives believe, due to evidence found at the home, Bessard may have been injured during his alleged involvement in the exchange of gunfire that erupted on Merwin Street and Hassett Avenue.

As the investigation moves forward, authorities are urging anyone with information about this crime to contact Caddo-Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373 or on their website at
