Smith County, Texas (KETK) — The Tyler Police Department has arrested the suspect in a convenience store robbery.
At approximately 1:34 p.m., on Monday, Smith County Sheriff's Office Dispatch received a 911 call regarding an armed robbery which occurred at a convenience store located in the 1200 block of East Northeast Loop 323 in the northeastern part of Smith County. The caller said she had just been robbed at knifepoint and the suspect had fled the scene.
Patrol deputies were dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 1:41 p.m. The witness stated an unidentified Hispanic man entered the store holding a knife and speaking only Spanish. The man was described as being tall with large build and wearing a tan hat, black short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. The suspect fled the scene with an undetermined amount of money in a late-model gold Toyota four-door sedan. At approximately 4:30 p.m., Smith County Sheriff's Office located the vehicle driven by the man suspected of robbing the convenience store. The vehicle was located at a residence in the 3000 block of Frankston Highway. Smith County patrol deputies and detectives maintained surveillance at that residence for approximately 1.5 hours before arresting an individual leaving the residence on charges unrelated to the robbery. Additional information was gathered from that individual. An arrest warrant charging Alberto Aguilar with Robbery was issued by Judge Christi Kennedy of the 114th State District Court who set bond at $650,000. Aguilar's vehicle was located at the 3000 block of Frankston Highway and was seized by the Smith County Sheriff's Office to be processed once a search warrant has been issued.
Around 11:00 pm Monday night, police officers received an anonymous tip that Aguilar was walking on Walton Road near Pearl Street. Several officers were immediately dispatched to the area. A few minutes later, Aguilar was spotted and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Smith County Jail where he was booked in on the outstanding warrant.
