Police: Longview man attacks deputies, lights fire in patrol vehicle
Longview, TExas (LNJ) — A Longview man is accused of attacking Gregg County sheriff’s deputies and lighting a “small fire” in the back of a patrol vehicle while being taken to jail after drinking whiskey and smoking two joints of synthetic marijuana.
Chase Hayden Dupree, 23, was arrested about 2:15 a.m. Friday by deputies at the North Point RV Park in the 7500 block of U.S. 259, according to judicial records.
Deputies said Dupree smelled of alcohol and had slurred, nonsensical speech. After they placed him in a patrol vehicle he “began to physically resist and bang his head on the Plexiglas,” according to the probable cause affidavit for his arrest.
“While trying to detain Dupree, Dupree kicked (a deputy) in the shoulder and also scratched and bit (another deputy),” the document states. Dupree then proceeded to light a fire in the back of the patrol cause causing the deputies to pull over.
