Police: Texarkana woman leads officers on chase, runs with 5 children
Texarkana, Texas (KETK) — An Texarkana woman was arrested Tuesday after she tried to run from police with her five children in tow.
At around 12:30 p.m., officer were dispatched to a hit and run accident in city limits where a vehicle involved was last seen headed west. When police spotted the vehicle, they attempted to pull it over.
During this time, the vehicle was headed west on W. 13th Street and created a crash at the intersection of Summerhill Road. The driver, Shuntay Johnson, 23, ran from the scene with her five kids, all ages six or younger.
Officers found Johnson in an alleyway where they saw her tossing the children over a fence. She then ran from authorities, leaving the children behind. Johnson was arrested after a short foot chase and charged with endangering/abandoning a child, resisting arrest, and evading arrest on foot. Johnson also had an unrelated felony warrant.
The children were taken to a local hospital to be checked for injuries.
