Henderson County deputies arrested a man near Lake Athens after allegedly discovering a syringe filled with methamphetamine in his shoe.

At 1:47 p.m. on Wednesday, a deputy was called to FM 2495 on reports of a welfare concern, according to Sheriff Ray Nutt. After arriving at the scene, the deputy found a man, later identified as William Riggins, standing in the middle of the road.

Authorities determined the man was intoxicated and took him into custody. During a search of William's, law enforcement found a syringe containing a liquid believed to be meth inside his shoe.

The suspect was taken to the Henderson County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication.
