aUSTIN (KVUE) — Police in Austin said a teacher admitted to molesting a 6-year-old student girl. The student claimed the incident took place in a classroom at her elementary school.
A Reilly Elementary summer school student reported the sexual assault. Alfredo Andrade-Gaytan was jailed following the alleged incident. He later admitted to sexually assaulting the child.
According to documents, Andrade-Gaytan held back the six-year-old girl from recess and asked her to play a game instead-- before sexually assaulting her in the classroom.
News hit much to close to home for Reilly Elementary neighbors.
"My wife and I have talked about homeschooling before. Now this has happened across the street from my house, I bet we're going to have some serious conversations," said a concerned parent.
School officials said Andrade-Gaytan started his career with AISD in August 2005 at McBee Elementary, Read Pre-K School, Linder, Walnut Creek and finally Reilly, but his employment file raised no red-flags.
"As a school district we do national annual criminal history background checks on all individuals," said school administrators.
Police investigated quickly, concerned about Andrade-Gaytan's continued contact with kids. The district removed him from the classroom the second day of summer school, the day after the attack.
"In these type of incidences, the suspects know their victims for sometime and this is the first day of summer program. This is the first time that they met," said authorities.
The suspect is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first degree felony.
