Tracker on stolen iPhone leads to alleged thief's arrest

Lufkin, Texas (KETK) — A 25-year-old man is behind bars after authorities were able to hunt down the suspect using a tracking system on a stolen iPhone.
At around 10:00 p.m. Monday, Officers, using information from the cellphone, were dispatched to a home on the 900 block of Weaver Avenue. When police arrived, they met with a met with a man there, Zacosric Samuel Houston.
Authoriites told Houston why they were at the location and asked if he possessed illegal weapons or property related to the vehicle burglary. At this time, Houston became nervous and did not directly answer the officers’ questions, said police.
A pat-down search of Houston’s clothing revealed he was in possession of a Springfield Armory .45 caliber pistol, which was stolen during a December 28, 2013, vehicle burglary, an iPod, which had been stolen the same date during a vehicle burglary, about 62 grams of marijuana, and around 25 grams of cocaine.
The alleged thief was booked into Angelina County Jail for the offenses of manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, theft of a firearm and theft.
The stolen iPhone was no longer at the location when officers contacted Houston, but the victim continued to track the phone and officers recovered it in a wooded area in the 400 block of Dale Street. The investigation into the vehicle burglary is ongoing.
