Trial slated to begin for Longview man accused of forcing teen into sex

Longview, Texas (KETK) — An East Texas man is set to stand trial Tuesday in Longview charged with aggravated child sexual assault.
Michael James Chalmers, 43, is slated to appear in the 124th District Court before Judge Alfonso Charles.
Chalmers is accused of holding a 13-year-old girl's basic privileges hostage in exchange for sexual favors. According to the complaint filed in the 188th District Court, Chalmers sexually assaulted the young teen at least 20 times between in an eight-month period and forced her to perform sexual acts on him in exchange for school supplies and activities the girl wanted to do.
Chalmers has been held in the Gregg County Jail on $30,000 bond for the reported continuous abuse.
