A DPS trooper had to fire his gun in an attempt to disable a vehicle driven by a possibly drunken driver Wednesday afternoon.

At about 1:58 p.m., a trooper pulled over a truck on FM 225 in Nacogdoches County for a traffic violation. A field sobriety test was performed on the driver, who failed to cooperate.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper David Hendry, while the trooper was attempting to arrest the driver, he sped away from law enforcement. The DPS trooper fired his gun to try stop the truck and then began chasing after the vehicle.

The trooper eventually lost sight of the truck, but the driver crashed into a tree and was found by a Nacogdoches County deputy constable on County Road 874. The driver and  passenger were removed from the truck, which had caught fire, and were taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

Stupid cop.
This is a perfect example of why NOT to fire a gun.
He missed his target - likely a tire which is a million-to-one chance of success.
Many people are victims of stupid cops blindly firing their guns & missing their mark by wide margins.
This "cop" is not a police officer & should be kept out of service to the public until having been retrained.
Too many cop stories of idiots believing they have unlimited, unquestioned authority.
If there was a victim there'd be a different headline!
