Nacogdoches County, Texas (KETK) — A DPS trooper had to fire his gun in an attempt to disable a vehicle driven by a possibly drunken driver Wednesday afternoon.
At about 1:58 p.m., a trooper pulled over a truck on FM 225 in Nacogdoches County for a traffic violation. A field sobriety test was performed on the driver, who failed to cooperate.
According to Department of Public Safety Trooper David Hendry, while the trooper was attempting to arrest the driver, he sped away from law enforcement. The DPS trooper fired his gun to try stop the truck and then began chasing after the vehicle.
The trooper eventually lost sight of the truck, but the driver crashed into a tree and was found by a Nacogdoches County deputy constable on County Road 874. The driver and passenger were removed from the truck, which had caught fire, and were taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
