Tyler, Texas (KETK) —
Four men who were charged with burglary of a habitation in connection with the attempted burglary of the home of Charles French on Thursday, August 29, on County Road 4142, in Smith County, are now found to be in connection with a string of burglaries afftecting Wood County residents.
Devante Montreal Veasey, 21, Nathaniel Montez Dorsey, age 23, Ariel De’ja Raibon, age 21, and Maurice Phillips, age 21, were all arrested. Charges are pending on one other man whose identity will be released later.
French detained one suspect at gunpoint until officials arrived on scene.
On Wednesday, August 28, two homes were also burglarized in the area of Alba-Golden.
That same day, three more were burglarized in the Hoard area. Gun safes were stolen from two of these homes.
The day the suspects were caught in Smith County, Wood County officials were able to confirm the individuals who were taken into custody were the same suspects who commited the crimes in Alba and Hoard.
Warrants are in the process of being written for these individuals and they are suspected to face several charges in Wood County as well as Smith and Van Zandt. These people have strong gang gies and some were identified as active gang members.
The individuals were all black men who commonly used Relian Energy t-shirts and they would approach a home they believed to be empty. Two men would go to the front door and knock. If someone answered they door, they would ask if they were happy with their energy provider, then leave. If nobody answered the door, they would normally force their way into the home. Once inside the house, they would do a "sweep" to make sure nobody was home. The suspect car would then drive to the back of the house and the rest of the suspects would enter the home and steal items. All burglaries were committed during the day.
