Update: Suspect identified in Tyler shooting
tyler, tx — Tyler Police responded to a shooting in a residential neighborhood at 907 Turner St. in Tyler Tuesday.
The shooting took place at about 2:00 pm. Police say one suspect was arrested in the vicinity of the shooting almost immediately after it took place.
The victim, who was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his forearm, has been identified as 28-year-old Chris Crockett.
According to Tyler P.D. spokesman Don Martin, a group of guys were hanging out on house's porch in the 900 block of Turner Drive when another group of four people arrived in a car. After 10 minutes of talking, one of the men from the car shot Crockett for unknown reasons. They fled the scene by car, but were quickly caught by police at the intersection of Connally and Hurt Street.
Authorities were able to recover a revolver in the yard that was believed to be used in the shooting.
Witnesses tell officials no arguments toook place prior to the gunfire.
Detectives arrested Bennie Jewels Williams III, 20, of Tyler. Williams is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was taken to the Smith County Jail.
