A Longview man was arrested by officers after leading them on a short chase through several yards Monday morning..

At 5:06 a.m., authorities were called to 1700 block of Hutchings Boulevard on reports of gunshots. When officers made it to the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound.

Once police walked toward the injured man, he ran from officers and jumped several fences during a chase. The suspect was caught a short time later.

During an interrogation following his arrest, the man lied about his identity and then was taken to a local hospital. Once there, he was properly identified as William Louis Walton, 29, of Longview. He was treated for minor injuries and released to officers.

Walton was transferred to the Gregg County Jail and charged with evading arrest and failure to identify. He also had three outstanding traffic warrants, a deadly conduct discharge warrant and an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon warrant.

Police do not currently have any information on a shooter due to Walton's uncooperative state.
