Crittenden Speaks to Upshur Republican Women’s Group
GILMER--Upshur County Pct. 1 Commissioner James Crittenden told a Republican women's group here June 26 he will try to prevent further layoffs of county workers and that he is a "proponent for keeping their benefits in place--but he predicted they won't receive a pay raise.
Addressing the Cherokee Rose Republican Women, Crittenden was reacting to the discussion at what he termed a "heated" town hall meeting conducted by fellow Commissioner Cole Hefner five nights earlier. Crittenden was the only member of the county commissioners court besides Hefner at the meeting, which featured a discussion of county employees' salaries and benefits, and a call from some persons for higher taxes.
