Ben Wheeler, Tx (KETK) — If you're looking to design your own pair of cowboy boots, we have a local place for you. From flower designs, to school colors and initials, Mercedes Boot Company in Ben Wheeler makes your cowboy boot vision come to life.
Mercedes Boot Company started in Mercedes, TX in 1975. Debby Farr and her husband bought it and were in Fort Worth for 23 years. They lost their location in Fort Worth to a bridge project and started looking in East Texas and fell in love with Ben Wheeler.
Mercedes Boot Company makes cowboy boots for every occasion.
Weddings, retirements, graduations you name it.
"From work boots to dress casual then the real fancy," said Farr.
Every pair of boots have a story.
"All we do is custom, so every customer that comes in, we measure both feet and they get to pick everything from the toe to heel, sole, top scallop, color combination and whatever skin they want depending on what they want to wear them for," said Farr.
Farr said there are 250 steps in making a pair of boots, and they never miss a beat.
"When you take the time making them by hand, you want to make sure they last."
With only four people in the shop, they've become a little family.
"There's always something to do. It's an enjoyable place to work," said Ann Cann, who works at Mercedes Boot Company.
Cann started working here 14 months ago, and couldn't imagine working anywhere else.
"There is a growth there building the boots and it's just exciting," said Cann.
They make boots for people all across the U.S. and even have customers from 16 foreign countries.
"This is like a dream job. Mondays are never a drag, everyday is different, we never know whose going to call or whose going to walk through the door,'' said Farr.
If you're not sure what you want, their door is open six days a week. They'll walk you through the process and make sure the boots you design are exactly what you wanted.
Because their boots are completely handmade, they're prices start at $895.
