Larry Steer loves Thanksgiving.

"I think this is a terrific vehicle for an old guy like me," Steer said. "I've never been able to do anything like this before."

And this year even though he will not be able to spend the holiday with his entire family, he will still get to see them all.

"I think it's my favorite holiday with Fourth of July because there's no gift giving," Steer said. "You just spend time with your family."

Applications like Skype and Face Time make it easy for families to still spend the holidays together.

"The only thing we used to do in the past," Steer said. "We used to telephone to each other, but now I can see you, that's kind of neat."

Media reports that 14.1 million Americans will be chatting by video this Thanksgiving. By computer, smartphone, tablet, smart TV or gaming system.

Steer's grandson, Jeffrey, gets to spend the holiday with his Papa. But he is happy he will get to see the rest of his relatives on Skype.

"A lot of people will not be able to spend Thanksgiving with each other so this will be a great way they can do this," said Jeffrey Hamilton.
