DALLAS (AP) - The driver of a pickup truck sought in a Dallas carjacking led police on a chase of about an hour that ended beside a runway at Dallas Love Field.

The chase wended through everything from expressways to side streets, with one wheel down to a hub, before the driver drove through a locked chain-link fence and onto the runways of the busy Dallas airport about 2:15 p.m.

Police pursued the truck onto the airport taxiways and past one end of its busiest runway before surrounding it on a field between a taxiway and runway, pulled the shirtless driver from the cab and placed him in handcuffs.

Southwest Airlines spokesman Brad Hawkins says the airport where Southwest is based and hubbed has been closed because of theincident, although incoming flights are continuing.

There was no answer to calls to the City of Dallas Aviation Department, which operates the aiprort.
