Deadline extended for brick project at Longview depot
Longview, TX — A tribute and memorial plaza at the soon-to-be renovated historical Longview depot has raised more than $22,000 for the depot, but there is still space for those hoping to honor military or railroad members, officials said Wednesday.
Griff Hubbard, Amtrak revenue manager and president of the Hubbard-Watlington Foundation, said about half of the proposed 500 bricks have been sold.
“This came about because, between the Hubbards and the Watlingtons, I am the fifth generation of my family to work for the railroad,” Hubbard said.
“I bought one for all five generations. I am not the only person with that railroad heritage. There are plenty of people that are generational.”
The Hubbard-Watlington Foundation provided a $25,000 startup donation to the plaza in August to allow residents to buy memorial bricks for the open-air patio of the depot.
