Deal to give new life to historical Kilgore theaters
Kilgore — The sound of music is coming to theaters where many Kilgore residents loved the movie of the same name.
The Crim Theater and Texan Theater, both in downtown Kilgore on the city’s namesake street, could become stages for music, Texas Shakespeare Festival plays and other events under a lease-purchase approved Tuesday by council members.
“We’re excited,” Mayor Pro Tem Harvey McClendon told developer Mike Herron, who previously redeemed an early 20th century movie house in Oklahoma into a music and community venue. “It’s an opportunity, a leap of faith on both parts.”
