Longview, TX — A delayed request for help re-oiling five roads drew Longview Mayor Jay Dean to the Gregg County Commissioners Court meeting Monday where he let the court know the city will shortly be asking for help on a long-term roads plan.
The city’s routine street maintenance request was unanimously approved upon the second by Commissioner Darryl Primo, in whose Pct. 2 the roads lie and who yanked the same request from a June 28 meeting agenda.
“We’re not just grabbing roads out of the air,” Dean said, defending the city’s method of choosing which roads to fix when and when — a process Primo had challenged in pulling the request this past month.
“We’re not playing politics. ... It’s not a guessing game, it’s based on engineering data,” Dean said.
Dean also took the opportunity to forecast a larger city request that’s on the horizon.
