SMITH COUNTY - Fire officials tell KETK the area's recent showers were not enough to extinguish the drought we've had here in East Texas but, it did help in taking out hot spots left from recent fires.
We're told, to pull Smith County out of the burn ban it would take at least a week, maybe even two, of non-stop rain. All total about 15 inches.
Smith County officials say despite all the warning about the burn ban many folks are still starting fires.
Smith County Fire Marshal tells KETK "We knew when we got some little bit of precipitation that some people are going to think that just because we got rain it's ok to burn. You have to remember there's a court order it's going to be in effect at least until it runs out or the court resends that order."
