It’s one of the fiercest Texas political battles in years.
The Republican runoff race for the US Senate pits two conservatives in a fight to the finish on July 31st.
When Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison announced she was retiring, the fight for her senate seat began.
And now it’s down to two.
You could call it a Texas version of the battle Republicans waged during the Presidential primaries.
It’s the establishment versus the Tea Party, though neither of these candidates would portray it that way.
David Dewhurst was a Houston businessman who amassed a fortune and in 1998 was elected Land Commissioner, and later, Lieutenant Governor.
Ted Cruz is a Houston attorney who served in the Justice Department under President George W. Bush and as Solicitor General for the State of Texas.
The accusations have been particularly intense in this runoff.
Election day is July 31st, and early voting starts on Monday.
The winner of this race and the Democratic runoff face each other in November.
