EAST TEXAS - The good news is east Texans aren't giving up their pets to save money in our downed economy, they're just not having them spayed or neutered.

Gayle Helms, director of the Humane Society of East Texas was on East Texas live Wednesday.

She says, to help with the money problem, she's teamed up with the Kaufman County Animal Awareness Project to make things easier on pet owners.

"That's an incredible discount and it's a professional, very hight-quality, very compassionate clinic," Helms says. "And they're the one's that take care of all our sheltered animals."

Rates for spay and neutering start at $50 for female dogs, under 50 pounds.

For males, the cost is $45 for for males under 50 pounds.
