District judge recuses herself from allegations
HOUSTON (AP) - — A district judge has recused herself from a contempt hearing for two Houston prosecutors involved in allegations that the Harris County district attorney's office violated a court order by obtaining secret testimony from a grand jury investigation into the DA's office.
State District Judge Susan Brown recused herself at a hearing on Monday.
Two assistant district attorneys and two court reporters had been summoned to Brown's court. They were asked to show why they shouldn't be held in contempt.
The Houston Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/sXu1G9 ) that Brown recused herself after an attorney representing the court reporters asked her to do so.
Brown had barred prosecutors from access to the grand jury investigation. She also barred the DA's office from participating in the investigation and appointed special prosecutors instead.
