Commercial Drivers are required to understand and speak English before getting an operator's license.
Private vehicle operators do not.
Do You think all drivers should speak and understand english before being allowed behind the wheel?
hi there im carlos and yes im mexican american. born here raised here. i have read most of the comments and i do understand the unfairness. i speak both languages, alittle sign language, little french, a few words in portugese, a few words here and there in udo(india or pakistan) yes, english is a must in this country. i agree. i also get mad when i see them wear $10,000 in gold and cant speak a word in english and they think there all that! or drive a car with 22" rims and a custom paint job. and here i am, just a simple guy that get NOTHING FOR FREE! no food stamps, no wic, no chips for my children, in fact i pay almost $400 a month for my childrens insurance and my friends get that #$%^ for free. but, i have an advantage. im open minded. i have learned my language in college and in the street. it took me 10 yrs to be fluent in spanish. i at least think i have good diction in english. well better than most here in tyler and believe me..i have heard some of you speak. some of you i cant understand. well, those i cant understand dont have access to the internest therefore is not reading this. probably because they dropped out of school and didnt learn anything afterwards. so my point being is that never mind what others do...do something for yourself. i have been around this country visiting all of its historical landmarks. i have learned english and spanish and bits of other languages to help me and my family for a better tomorrow. as far as the drivers license is concerned...i rather have them get it and get insurance and no dl and no insurance. one mexican guy hit me with dl and no insurance..and guess what happened. i had his dl suspened..and left me with a $4000 damage to my car. so, i understand all of you. thank you for reading my opion.

4 months agoI don't see how people who can't speak and read English get a drivers license in the first place... as i am still young and only have a permit, but don't you have to take a written test?? how in this world did they get past that... did they have there son/daughter/relative do it for them cause they can't speak/read freaking English? i know our language is very tough but i mean if your going to live and have a life in America wouldn't it be a good idea to learn a little bit at least? if i went to another country they would laugh so hard if i would try to do the things people from other country's do here, "may i get someone to speak my language please?"
they would be laughing so hard right now and wouldn't help me, why don't we do the same thing??
while im ranting a bit i might as well say that people of races but white seem to get way more benefits and even if they are here illegal they still get the **** benefits!!! WTF is that?

**** that is so annoying my brother has no job and they wouldn't give him food stamps to help out his 3 kids but they gave it to that man in the $5000 dollar suit over there just because he was a different race... (that didn't really happen but my mom works at Wal-Mart and she sees people in the nicest cloths you ever seen really expense suits big diamond rings,oh and they probably have a really expense car i bet as well but they are paying their food with food stamps... looks like to me they have plenty of money.)
sorry about my anger... that is just very annoying that people who are NOT suppose to be in this country still get help, shouldn't we kick their asses out of here? since you know... they are breaking the law by being here illegally? and im not saying every one of a different race is here illegally but lets face it a pretty large amount of them are here illegally.

5 months agoIt's just as hard for US to learn Spanish or any other language, as it is for them to learn ENGLISH. If you're going to say that, it works both ways. But the fact is, if they cannot or do not want to learn it, then they don't need to come here. This is an honest opinion, not being racial, it's just the truth.

6 months agoYes, especially people who DRIVE in AMERICA NEED to speak ENGLISH. People who LIVE in AMERICA should know English. We should not have to cater to those who move here legally or illegally and learn their language. We did not ask for them to come here not speaking English. Tourism has nothing to do with this Unless they ARE driving here which I agree, it is important to be able to read the signs. Tourism is not the issue, it's the people who STAY and LIVE HERE. I am all for people coming here to make better lives, learn, and work BUT LEARN ENGLISH. This is America and Texas is NOT apart of Mexico any longer, REMEMBER THE ALAMO.

6 months agoHere is the thing about people who Quote Unquote say No hablo iglas... when really they can speak english they just don't want to. The sad part of all of it... is that we accept it for what it is and try to learn their language. I am sorry but I am an American and I am a legal citizen. They aren't so If they want us to accept them then they need to quit be stupid and grow up and talk in english like they know it. Don't play dumb we as Texans I will say are sick and tired of the crap. They need to learn it!!!! No one here can say that they shouldn't. FYI TOURISM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS QUESTION....

6 months agoYes, I think that speaking english is very important here in the united states, but you gotta realize though how difficult it can be to learn the language. At an advanced age, it's hard to make that change. Not only the older folks, but the children. If they were born into families who dont speak it, then they're not even adapting to the language either! I'm sorry...i hope you get my point. It just seems like all the other comments are being kinda racist against illegal aliens especially targeting mexicans! The way that they're posted...sounds so racial! We should not be that way!

I think so becasue we as American are protected under our Constitution...The illegals are protected by maybe Obama but not the LAW!!!!

5 months agoYou want to know something.... If they come to this country they need to know our language. What makes you think that it's ok for us to learn their language, but not ok for them to learn ours. It's a two lane road If they want to live here they must learn.

6 months agoMaybe, that's all people think is the "LAW." If other people from other countries come here just to visit or stay so what. That's what were all here for to help one another, not to hate. What has this world come to? We have so many illegal aliens here from "different countries." That does not know English, If we went to there countries we would have to speak there language. Like Cancun, Alcapulco, Italy, China or India to visit or stay.

5 months agoYeah we all need to speak English because we are Americans and English is God's language and we are taught in church not to like anyone who is not just like us so when someone speaks mexican they are not according to GOD.
