Do You Think Texas Prisons Should be Air Conditioned?

i temporarily took a job as a c.o. at ellis prison due to the economy. i got to know alot of the convicts. some of these guys were in their 70s and had committed a crime 50 yrs ago. alot of them have changed. they are old and defenseless. punishment for their crimes is serving a specified amount of time locked away. IT DOES NOT MEAN TORTURE THEM! heat tortured all of us. it is illegal under the osh act of 1970 regarding hot working conditions. let bush and his crime family disappear, along with this archaic backward redneck mentality that inhabits texas like a plague. i have no problem displaying my email. it is rdfountain1@gmail.com

It is obviously that you guys don’t have a love one in prison or even know some one in prison. I think they should be punished for their crimes – but if we put animals in the same conditions, the public out cry would be there. I do have a love one in a south Texas prison were the temp get well above 110 degrees in the building. This unit will not even allow them to buy a fan , no fan system in the population no windows- raw sewage in the showers , and this person has a chronic illness that is in not being treated by the system , My love received a 4 years term not a death sentence so tell me how you can justify that has humane- how is this rehabilitating them , improving the society . I cant see that this has lowered the crime in Texas. By the way this person is not a molester, is not a theft, and is not a murder, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. NO AIR Conditioners FOR PRISONS Period!! When we have the poor who can't afford Air conditions sitting in hot houses all summer long and no HEAT in the Winters.
I am getting tired of my tax Money going to cater to the needs of Murders and thieves and people who are pumping Dope into our children!! ENOUGH!! Stop making these prisons into MOTELS for these people who choose to break the LAWS! MAKE THEM INTO PRISONS LABS!! Turn them into LAB RATS,..throw them all in one cage,..Take away thier names and give them numbers and Inject them with some deadly HUMAN diseases,..and Lets Find HUMAN CURES for Humans threw them and not a RAT. If they live threw all of this and a Cure is found,..then by all means,..put them in a jail with AIR CONDITIONS,..TV and a bed to live out thier TERM! I won't mind paying Taxes for a CURE to Cancer! NOT to make PRISONS into HOTELS!!!

YES they should be air conditioned. These buildings were not even designed to be cooled from outside air. If we can't afford it, well then, lets not put so many people into prison. Is our county really that full of criminals? Or are we intentionally making a criminal society?
Air conditioning is not just for comfort. MRSA and other contagions are birthed in prisons: Unsanitary conditions, overcrowding, and high temperatures are an invitation to disease. Unlike people, disease knows no bars, heads no gun wielding guards, and would love to come live with any one of us. From the prisons to the streets to the hospitals to the schools. If you don't care about how you treat your fellow man, perhaps you care if your children live to adulthood. Look up how many people died from MRSA in the past few years. Really. Look it up. Google it. That's our handiwork.

No, they shouldn't be air conditioned. I was employed as an officer and I endured the heat just fine. If the inmates don't like it then don't be stupid enough to do something to get yourself in there. Oh, and if you were "wrongly accused" then don't put yourself in a position where you would be "wrongly accused"! The tax payers dont' need to pay for it!! That's what's wrong, with the inmates now, there is really no deterrant for going to prison, I say make them bust big rocks into little rocks again!!
