Tyler—
The President is under mounting pressure from gay and lesbian groups to repeal the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy in our nation's military.
East Texans bend the ear of host Garth Maier on whether they think the President should do so.

No one is stopping gays from serving, serve, I think thats great, I think more people should, but your personal life is just that personal. I know your going to say to be true to yourself you have to be open, I say no. Why do you feel a need to wear a sign, a banner expressing your sexuality, I was in military for several years I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt if you want to see a weaker military that will result in greater loss of life and morale continue this debate.

1 month agoDADT should be stopped once and for all, It is discriminatory, unconstitutional and oppresive. I served in the military for 6 years, fought in Iraq, defended my soldiers and Im happen to be GAY. Why should I have less rights as an American?, when I defended our country and when our constitutions says "all men are created equal". We are fighting multyple wars for the purpose of spreading freedom and safety through out the world. Well I want those freedoms for my self here at home. Repealing DADT is about equlity and civility. Most people opposed to repealing DADT have never served in the military. I worked, fought, protected and cohabited with many soldiers...like a family. My blood as as red any other mans blood! When it comes down to it, fear is a powerful force. Fear is homophobia and fear is an awful thing. God less America and equality !!

1 month agoIf it were repealed would the drill sargeant be able to holler and cuss out the homosexuals or would they be exempt from that? What if the drill sargeant,he or she,got in a hmosexuals face and hollered and shouted at the homosexual and called ,say a male homosexual,a faggot, one would have to wonder if the drill sargeant would be fired or demoted for hurting the homosexuals feelings.I do know by hearsay that the drill sargeant hollers and shouts in the faces of heterosexuals and cusses them out and calls them and their mothers terrible names.
I think we oughta stay with President Clintons dont ask dont tell.

1 month agoDrill Sergeants, Company commanders, each branch has their own, and yes, they are able and do cuss and swear at the recruits, men and women. My husband and I served in the Navy, my son was in the Marine Corp. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has been around far too long. It was bad when it started and never accomplished anything good. We lost a great many good men and women because of the witch hunts. It should over NOW. I am trying to be patient but it is hard sometimes. I have faith in Obama that he will do it and I understand that he has a lot on his plate, but it's just hard to be patient when I hear idiots who obviously have no experience with the real world and don't know what they are talking about.

1 month agoI think now is the time for don't ask, don't tell to be repealed. There is no reason that our young people who want to serve shouldn't serve based solely on sexual preference. The militaries of other countries do not have problems with this. I don't think we will either. Also, contrary to the thoughts of a previous writer, Barack has done quite a bit since taking office. I feel that the work he has done on the stimulus plan and other economic works has slowed down our descent into an economic maelstrom the likes of which we haven't seen since the great depression. Most economists now agree that the corner is turned, but it will be quite some time before we fully recover, especially on the employment front.

1 month agoBarry should leave this alone!!!!!The troops have a pretty good idea who is and isn't.He is pandering to a grp. Just like he has done with the union's.
He has more important issues sitting on his desk.He has troops in harm's way in the far east.
He has NOT done one thing since he has been in office to rebuild. He is a prompter reader. After 9 mos. in office, all he does is travel and make speeches and pick a fight with FOX news.I don't think he cares to be re-elected,he is trying to undermine and destroy our country
We know that HE is,by who He associates with.
