If you take multivitamins or dietary supplements, doctors now say it's a waste of time and money. Doctors did three studies to see the effects multivitamins and dietary supplements have on a person and the results, nothing.

More than half of American adults take a multivitamin, but now doctors are saying don't waste your money, because it doesn't help the average Americans health.

"People buy vitamins thinking they're going to improve your health, but really there are very few scientific studies showing that," said Endocrinologist Meg Reitmeyer.

The studies find multivitamins don't prevent memory loss, cancer or heart problems and doesn't guarantee you'll live a longer life.

"Don't think it should be such a shock to people that they don't prevent or cure diseases," said owner of Complete Nutrition Tatia Gilger.

Dr. Reitmeyer said simply eating a healthy diet and exercising is all you need."It's actual the illness that is causing the low vitamin level not the other way around so taking a vitamin may not make a difference so again it may be a waste of time and money."

And of course this news surprises some East Texans.

"For how many years they've been telling us you need to take vitamins everyday and now all of a sudden it's kind of like everything else they go oops sorry we made a mistake you don't have too."

But, now they know they can throw away their vitamins and never have to purchase another bottle again.

"Whether its good or bad for you why waste your money if you don't need it."
