Donations, volunteers needed for Thanksgiving Food Drive in Longview

Organizers with the Thanksgiving Food Drive want to remind people that they will need donations and volunteers next week.

The annual donation day will be Monday, and the pickup day will be Tuesday, both at Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center. There are 1,118 families approved to receive food boxes this year, said Betty Horaney, one of the organizers.

While many organizations, including churches, schools, businesses and Boy Scouts, hold food drives and bring their donations to the event, there still is a tremendous need for small donations from individuals and families, she said.

I left my sack of groceries out for the Boy Scouts to pick up November 23rd and they never showed up. I even put it out the night prior just to make sure it was out on time. I was disappointed that I had to retrieve the sack this evening and put everything back in my pantry.
