Today in East Texas, the Doris Day Horse Rescue and Adoption Center opened to the public for the first time.

Doris Day director Anne Favre says the facility is meant to rescue and rehabilitate horses and then match them up with a good home.

6 months ago, a group of abused horses were rescued from Lindale.

One of those horses was named after horse lover and benefactor Doris Day.

So the rescue center was named after Day -- and the horse.

Today's festivities included a rescue makeover show, a flag raising cereomony as well as the traditional ribbon cutting.
