Douglass ISD looking for new superintendent
AS REPORTED IN THE NACOGDOCHES DAILY SENTINEL:
Douglass ISD administrators and school board members are on the hunt for a new leader after Jay Tullos, the district's superintendent, announced he would be taking a position at Canton ISD.
Tullos has been at Douglass ISD since July 2001, where he was principal for five years before becoming the district's superintendent in 2006. He was named the lone finalist for the position of superintendent at last week's Canton ISD board of trustees meeting. However, state law requires districts to wait 21 days before finalizing a superintendent's contract. Tullos hopes to start working around Dec. 9.
"Douglass ISD is a great school," Tullos began. "The reason for the success here has been the staff and school board. There is nothing wrong here in the district; it's one of the best schools in the area."
The opportunity to take the superintendent position at Canton ISD just presented itself, Tullos said. Canton ISD is a 3A district, with approximately 2,100 students on four campuses. There are 370 students at Douglass ISD, Tullos said.
The choice for a replacement superintendent hasn't been made yet, but Tullos said he is sure school board members will be diligent and make the right decision.
