DPS participates in live-action hurricane drill
The Texas Department of Public Safety and numerous other agencies in the DFW area are participating in a live-action hurricane drill June 9 through June 11. This exercise is intended to test emergency mobilization, response and preparedness in the event of a real natural disaster.
Numerous law enforcement and response vehicles depart from Arlington on Wednesday morning. The personnel and vehicles involved will respond in this drill just like an actual emergency and travel more than 300 miles to the Gulf Coast. Response vehicles will leave in large groups with emergency lights activated and travel south on SH 360 to IH 20. They will stay on IH 20 until they reach US 69 in Tyler. They will then head south with the final destination being Beaumont.
The convoys will be traveling at speeds slower than the posted speed limit on public roadways. Motorists are asked to use caution when they encounter these vehicles; they may pass the convoy if they are able to do so safely.
