Driver who allegedly fell asleep in fatal pedestrian accident to be charged

GREGG COUNTY — UPDATE (3:56 pm): Officials have released the name of the man killed after being hit by a vehicle on Hwy. 135 in Gregg County early Friday morning.
The deceased is 50 year old Darrell Cannon of Gladewater, who was walking toward oncoming traffic on Hwy. 135.
Authorities tell KETK crews on scene, the man was hit by a woman driving a 2005 Nissan Murano was heading southbound on Hwy. 135 near Crews Rd around 8:00 am on Friday.
The woman has been identified as Stormy Scott, 20, a Kilgore College student.
Scott was driving about 55 mph when she reportedly fell asleep and hit Cannon.
Officials say Scott thought she had hit a mailbox, so she kept driving, until someone who was driving behind her chased her down and informed her what happened.
Scott returned to the scene and has been questioned by officials.
According to the Gregg County Department of Public Safety, they will submit a request to the District Attorney's Office to charge Scott with criminally negligent homicide, a third degree felony.
UPDATE (9:00am): KETK crews are on the scene of what appears to be a fatal pedestrian wreck in Gregg County.

That's just north of Liberty City.
