Dual credit hopefuls scramble to take placement exams
KILGORE — First time dual credit students are scrambling to take placement tests to prove their college readiness after the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board failed to set exemptions based on STAAR end of course exam scores.
Exemptions occur when a student meets the minimum required score on standardized college readiness tests, but this year’s junior class is the first to be evaluated under STAAR end of course results and the minimum score for that exam was not set by the higher education board meeting in July.
“The reason those rates were not set is probably due to the new test rolling out this fall,” said Dominic Chavez, spokesman for the education board.
