Two people are in the Smith County Jail tonight charged with possession of narcotics and weapons. And it started with a stakeout.
Just after two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, just when most folks were coming back from lunch, two people were allegedly moving guns and narcotics.
It all began at the Fox Run apartments. Tyler Police had gotten complaints from residents about drug activity, so they staked out the complex. Then, two people, a man and a woman, walked out holding a bag. And then they saw the cops.
The man stashed the bag in a nearby dumpster.
Then they drove down loop 323 to get away from the police, but narcotics officers were following. They turned on Alta Mira near a day care center, and were arrested at the corner of Santa Elena.
And now 29-year-old Christopher Browning and 24-year-old Latrice Whitaker, both of Jacksonville, are in jail charged with narcotics possession.
Other charges may be pending, including possession of a weapon near a school. And in the bag were 3 pistols and narcotics including marijuana and cocaine.
There may be further searches of the apartment as the investigation continues, and more charges might be forthcoming.
