An off-duty Corsicana firefighter was killed and his twin sons were severely injured in a one-vehicle crash in the western part of Navarro County late Tuesday.

According to Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Judge Jackie Freeman, the crash occurred shortly before midnight on FM 709 near Highway 31. Louis Lachney, 46, was driving a convertible car about two miles north of Dawson when he failed to navigate a curve and crashed into a ditch. The vehicle rolled and threw all three, who were not wearing seat belts, from the car.

The father was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:40 a.m. by Freeman. The 11-year-olds were flown to Children's Medical Center in Dallas. They are expected to recover.

Freeman said the firefighter was a lieutenant with the local department.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and other emergency crews responded to the scene.
