On Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., former NFL running back and Tyler football legend, Earl Campbell, will be honored as part of a special program, “Hometown Hall of Famers™" presented by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate.

Campbell will be recognized by representatives of the Pro Football Hall of Fame (PFHOF), Allstate Insurance Company and the Tyler community, during a special ceremony at John Tyler High School.

The first player taken in the 1978 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers, Campbell took the NFL by storm from the start.

In 1978, he was named the NFL's Most Valuable Player, elected to the All-Pro team and earned  Rookie of the Year honors.

He won the league's leading rusher title with 1,450 yards and was named to the AFC Pro Bowl squad.

In his eight-season career, which included a final stop with the New Orleans Saints, Campbell rushed 2,187 times for 9,407 yards and 74 touchdowns.

He also gained 806 yards on 121 receptions to bring his career combined yards total to 10,213.

Campbell was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991.

I'm a native Houstonian and bleed Colombia Blue. Earl is the reason I became a sports artist. In 1989 he collaborated with me on a limited edition print that he autographed. We were to split the proceeds from the sales but before a year was complete he restructured the contract to give me 100% of proceeds. That became my nest egg to grow my career. Until this time I had never considered sports art as a direction that I could take. I am now the artist for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, since 1997

We are so proud of him!!!!
