Tyler, TX — A get-a-way gone wrong, more than 4,000 passengers aboard a Carnival Cruise ship including crew members.

Carnival Cruise reports, while on a four day cruise that departed Galveston last Thursday, experienced an engine room fire Sunday morning.

One East Texan,  Malena Rikard, of Nacogdoches is on the Carnival Cruise, her husband, Charles Rikard joined us via Skype.

"My wife along with for other people from our church went together as a group on the cruise," says Charles Rikard, of Nacogdoches.

Reports say, the ship was more than 100 miles off the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Rikard tells KETK, his wife was headed to Cozumel, and then headed to their next stop.

Carnival reports, the ship's automatic fire extinguishing systems activated and the fire was put out successfully, and no one was hurt.

Reports say, the ship redirected and is drifting reaching Mobile, Alabama expecting the cruise to arrive sometime Thursday.

A travel expert tells KETK,

"I think that was a smarter choice just because there's more than 4,000 people maybe over 3,000 passengers and approximately 900 had no passport," Tom Parsons, Travel Expert, CEO of Best Fares.

Malena Rickard, of Nacogdoches, tells her husband about the conditions on board, she says there are limited amenities.

"To my wife they are not terrible, she's just in a discomfort right now," says Charles Rikard , of Nacogdoches.

Rikard says, his wife is disappointed. He tells KETK, he's stressed, worried and anxious to get his wife back home and her friends.
