Tyler, TX — Good news for East Texans! Employment numbers are up and it's doing some good for Texas, especially for East Texans.

A new data from Bureau of Economic Analysis shows, there has been a change in personal growth in Texas and Texans are becoming richer.

Which two cities made the list? Longview and Tyler.

According to the new data, 25 cities in Texas made the list. The city of Longview made the list at #7 and Tyler #10.  

The average income for Longview and Tyler is more than $38,000, and that number up significantly from 2010.

Midland is ranked #1 averaging more than $65,000 a year.

KETK spoke with Mayor of Longview, Jay Dean on this new data.

"Longview provides a good place for business professionals, CEO's, doctors, lawyers, to live in Longview, and to work in and around surrounding areas I think helps income levels," says Mayor of Longview, Jay Dean.

"Our manufacturing base, medical profession, we work real hard with our workforce development programs to try to provide skill sets to these industries so that they can hire people they need, those jobs pay well too," says Mayor of Longview, Jay Dean.

Tom Mullins, Tyler Chamber of Commerce tells KETK,

"The Midland area, the Permian Basin, it's their major driver, Longview is very close to the East Texas oil activity, and shale activity, and Tyler is a regional support center."

Mullins adds,

"For Tyler in addition, we have a rapidly growing medical sector, higher educational base, and a lot small technology companies so we are happy to see that increase."

KETK spoke to Keith Honey, Longview External Affairs with AEP,

"There has been a lot of demand for skilled workers, and wages have risen fairly significantly because of that, so demand has been good because of oil and gas business has been doing pretty good."

Mullins tells KETK, Texas continues to be ranked as the top business friendly state in the country. He says, Tyler has competitive business climate, low avearge cost of living, climate opportunities, and more people are making a decision to relocate in Texas over the last 4-5 years.
